It’s almost Christmastime, and I’m sure you are readying your menu. Here’s a recipe you shouldn’t pass off – The Christmas Crack Sandwich Recipe.
After eating one of these little sandwiches, you won’t be able to stop yourself from having another… and another. I was urged to try to make these, and just after seeing the list of ingredients, I knew something good was coming my way. These sweet and savory delights are cheap, super easy, and don’t require much time to make other than chilling in the fridge for a couple of hours and a quick bake in the oven. Try these out, and see for yourself why they call them “crack” sandwiches.
It is hard to mess up this recipe, except you overbake and burn the sandwiches.
Ingredients Needed to Make The Christmas Crack Sandwich Recipe
The crack sandwich can be easily made with these ingredients:
– King’s Hawaiian sweet rolls
– Deli ham
– Horseradish sauce
– Aged white cheddar cheese, shredded
– Unsalted butter
– Swiss cheese
– Spicy brown mustard
– Finely chopped white onions
– Dill pickles
– Brown sugar
– Worcestershire sauce
– Ground black pepper
– Garlic powder
– Parsley leaves
How to Make The Crack Sandwich
First, unwrap the sweet rolls…
After unwrapping the Hawaiian sweet rolls from the packaging, place it on a cutting board and slice through the middle in a horizontal direction to split into top and bottom halves.
Place the bottom halves of the roll in a greased 9×9-inches baking pan, and spread the horseradish sauce to completely cover the cut-side of the bottom rolls.
Layer with 2 folded slices of ham on each sweet roll, top with some shredded aged whited cheddar, and sprinkle ground pepper to taste.
Arrange the dill pickles on top of the folded ham and shredded cheese on all 12 rolls and cover it with the Swiss cheese slices. Sprinkle garlic powder to taste. Replace the top halves of the sweet rolls and secure the sandwich tightly.
In a small skillet, heat butter over medium-high heat. Once melted, transfer the melted butter into a heat-safe bowl, add in the onions, spicy brown mustard, brown sugar, and Worcestershire sauce, and whisk to combine.
Pour the buttery mixture over the bread rolls, cover it up with a foil and refrigerate for several hours or overnight.
Preheat oven to 350°. Bake, covered, 25 minutes. Bake, uncovered, 5-10 minutes longer or until golden brown.
Tip: Because these Christmas crack sandwiches are sweeter when they are allowed to marinate for a longer time. It is super easy to make them ahead of time for special functions.
